The SSF commitment is to helping secondary students to pass their KCSE exams so that they can go on to create a future for themselves but so many of them have big family problems that make even everyday survival difficult. Many are from single parent families where one parent has died whilst the second can be quite ill. This has resulted in many 'grandmas' taking over and trying to care for 4 - 6 grandchildren because the parents are either not there anymore or not in a position to do so. These elderly ladies often struggle to look after just themselves but so many have got to somehow feed and clothe young grandchildren. So it is very encouraging to hear that the Act of Mercy local church group led by Deacons Josephine & Irene with the help of Martha Bilo and Madame Salome amongst others are doing something about it and MAKING A DIFFERENCE. Blankets and mosquito nets are both essential and in very short supply.

Rhoda(left) has now got a warm blanket and a mosquito net courtesy of the Act of Mercy group aided by some support from SSF donors.

Sabina (below) is obviously very happy to have benefitted in a similar manner.
The group aims to help 10 of the most needy and vulnerable every month and by working together we feel that this should be achievable.
Help is also given in the form of food and clothing. However Waya a very elderly lady had no house at all. The church group without help from SSF, found her a small plot of land and she has now got a house on it. Hopefully a photo of Waya will follow. This community wants to help itself but with just a little extra help from outside it can not only do so but achieve so much more. These old women deserve it after all they have done.
