When SSF first selected the local school of choice for our own students, Ramula Secondary stood out as a school that would offer our students the best opportunities. But then a very good friend of SSF, Tom Were, was appointed as Principal to Mbora Secondary and on our first visit it became clear that Tom was making his new school every bit as good for students particularly as the school is situated in a very poor region. It is very close to the fairly new Hydro-electric Damn project which supplies a lot of electricity to homes in the neraby towns and cities but very few jobs for the locals. Tom easily persuaded us to sponsor just a couple of students on one of our visits and now despite his departure, Soita Mulati, his successor looks after 12 of our sponsored students and he is doing an excellent job as the recent examination results show.

Soita Mulati (the Principal) has just sent this progress report for our recent leavers.
Our SSf student did well, I mean most of them topped the class as detailed below thus Valley Bande got a Grade C-, Vera got C-, Collince Odhiambo C- .
Such a grade in Kenya is elligible for Diploma courses in various fields. (so all 3 should get on to higher education courses with the help of Educational HELB loans if that is what they want to do.)
Soita went on to say:
I hope you remember , Tom Abonyo , the 2019 SSF group.
He came to reapeat form 4 class in our School in order to better his performance and am glad to Inform you that He got C+ of 51 points which is a direct University grade .
He got admission recently to study Bachelor of Commerce in KISII University ,Kenya.
Thanks so much Ssf , your support is giving hope to less fortunate families here in Kenya, by empowering them through the education of their children.
Imagine , he is the first ever student to qualify to University from our School.
On the other hand
Bande is still at home waiting for college admission.I will contact him soon and keep you posted of the progress.
It is so rewarding to hear about Tom and the likes of Bande. Both now have potential successful futures and yet when Valley Bande was first selected for sponsorship he was very underweight and struggled to attend school everyday because he basically had insufficient (food) energy to walk the 5K there and back. Big thanks must go to both Tom Were and Soita Mulati, as well as the sponsors who are keeping these young people at school.
